Unknown gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday invaded the property of a politician, Afolabi Iwalewa, and shot his safety guard for the duration of the raid.

The residence situated at No 15 Surulere Quarters, off Iyin Road was also vandalised throughout the attack.

Iwalewa, his wife, Oluwatosin and son, Olasunkanmi had been to be away on vacation in France and Portugal.

It was gathered that the suspected criminals stormed the compound at the wee hour of Wednesday, 22nd November, 2017.

The safety guard was beaten and sustained wounds when he resisted the invaders leaving him in a coma and pool of his blood.

A source stated Iwalewa’s house in Akure was not too long ago attacked fuelling fears that the attack may possibly be politically motivated.

He said: "Suspected political thugs had penultimate Saturday ransacked Iwalewa’s residence at Plot 16, Ogunsakin Street, Akure, exactly where their security dog was killed.

"It could be a possible assassination attack on the loved ones. We have contacted the family members who mentioned they would take methods but waiting for Iwalewa’s response."

When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Alberto Adeyemi, said the case was but to be reported to his office.
